Matthew Sharkey, PhD

Licensed Psychologist

I’m Dr. Matthew Sharkey, a licensed psychologist working with children, adolescents, and adults. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and my PhD from Texas Tech University. I specialize in psychological assessment and evidence-based therapies, helping individuals and families understand their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions, and translate that understanding into practical strategies for meaningful change. My approach is centered on clarity, empowerment, and practical guidance, helping clients take steps toward the life they want to build.

Assessment

Our goal in assessment is not just to provide a diagnosis, but to understand how your experiences, behaviors, and symptoms interact with everyday life. We explore questions like: in what settings or situations do certain challenges appear, how do specific patterns of behavior fit into the bigger picture, and what can be done to support meaningful change. We take a collaborative approach, working together with you and your family every step of the way, so that the insights we uncover are not only clear and useful but also personally relevant and actionable.

Therapy

In therapy, I take an evidence-based approach focused on helping you identify your goals and implementing strategies to help you reach these goals. I work with a range of concerns, including trauma (e.g., Cognitive Processing Therapy), sleep difficulties (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia), depression and anxiety (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), OCD (e.g., Exposure and Response Prevention), and many others. My approach is warm, practical, and goal-driven, emphasizing collaboration so that together we create strategies and tools to help you achieve meaningful, lasting change.
